Former Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has campaigned for his opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP’s) parliamentary candidate for the Akwatia Constituency parliamentary by-election, Solomon Kwame Asumadu.
Dr. Bawumia joined NPP members in the Akwatia constituency on Sunday, August 31, 2025 to campaign for the NPP candidate.

In a statement posted later Sunday evening on his Facebook page, Dr. Bawumia revealed that he “urged constituents to vote for the NPP’s Asumadu, to enable him continue with the good works and legacy of their beloved late MP, Ernest Kumi.”

The by-election is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. The election became necessary following the death of the New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate, Ernest Kumi.
