A teacher at the Nyamira Boys High School in Kenya has reportedly committed suicide after losing an Aviator betting game.
The teacher named Kevin Omwenga took his own at his rented house on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, according to the Nyamira Township Assistant Chief, Johnson Manyara.
Reports say the late Omwenga was a chemistry and mathematics teacher at Nyamira Boys High School.
Kenyan media outlet, Citizen Digital reported Omwenga’s colleagues as saying he was an avid player of the Aviator betting game.
The late gambler was said to be in debt, having even borrowed Ksh 50,000 from his his colleague teachers, to play bet but lost in the process.
Principal of the Nyamira Boys High School, George Onkundi, told the media that Omwenga was last seen near the school on Wednesday, however noting that he did not report to work.
At the time of the gambling-induced suicide, Omwenga’s wife and their one year-old child were reportedly visiting his sick mother in the village.
