Murdered Ugandan Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei Buried With Full Military Honours

The Ugandan Olympian, Rebecca Cheptegei, who was burned to death by her now late boyfriend, has been buried.

Her burial service took place at her ancestral home on Saturday.

It would be recalled that she was doused in petrol and set on fire days ago by her boyfriend, Dickson Ndiema. The 33-year-old marathoner, had returned to her home in the highlands of western Kenya, when she was set on fire following a dispute over a piece of land.

She suffered 75% of burns to her body and died from the injuries four days later.

Cheptegei was quoted by her father, Joseph Cheptegei as saying from her hospital bed at the Moi Teachingand Referral Hospital “I don’t think I am going to make it. If I die, just bury me at home in Uganda.”
