Ex-Governor of The Central Bank of Liberia Dies In His Sleep in Ghana, Nation In Shock

An ex-Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia, Charles Sirleaf, has passed away, aged 68.

Ghanaija understands that Mr. Sirleaf, who is the son of Liberia’s former President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, died in his sleep in the Ghanaian capital, Accra on Monday, June 3, 2024.

A family source has since confirmed his death. Mr. Sirleaf’s death has sent shockwaves across Liberia.

 

The late Mr. Sirleaf, aside being the son of the former President, was a renowned figure in the finance industry of Liberia.

 

He served as Deputy Governor and Acting Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia under three presidents and an interim government from 2004 to 2020. During his tenure, he was known for his efforts to stabilize Liberia’s economy and implement critical financial reforms.
