Egypt Will Bid For 2036 and 2040 Olympics – Says AONCA Chief

The Head of the African Olympic Committees Association (AONCA), Mustapha Berraf, has revealed that Egypt will bid to host either the 2036 or 2040 Summer Olympics.

Egypt’s improving infrastructure and sports facilities are seen as key for a successful African bid, Mr. Berraf said.

Africa has never in its history hosted an Olympic Games.

Egypt last made an unsuccessful bid to host the 2008 Olympics.

The 2024 Olympics Games are being held in Paris, France.

Several countries are expected to send in their bids to host the 2036 and 2040 Olympics.

And Egypt, the most populated nation of the Arab world, is spending billions of dollars in building facilities, stadiums and sports complexes as part of its modernization plans and efforts to host the Olympic Games.

Addressing a press conference on the day of the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics, Mr. Berraf said: “Egypt will bid for 2036 and 2040.”

The Egypt International Olympic City which the country has been building since 2015 in the east of Cairo, is expected to have a 93,900- capacity national stadium and 21 other sports facilities.
