Canadians Die After Drinking Contaminated Milk, 10 Others Fall Sick

Two Canadians have reportedly died from infections caused by listeria after drinking popular milk substitutes based on almonds, oats, cashews and coconuts.

The substitutes were sold under the Silk and Great Value brands, Canada’s health department disclosed on Wednesday night, July 17, 2024.

According to the department, most of the infections were affecting residents of Ontario.

Health Canada says the infections were confirmed by laboratory tests.

Silk is owned by French food giant, Danone. It said in a statement on its website that the infectious drinks were made in a “third-party manufacturing facility.”
