Pope Francis and the comedians at the Vatican

More than 100 comedians from Hollywood have paid a courtesy visit to the Vatican where they held a meeting with the leader of the Catholic church, Pope Francis.

 

Among the comedians who visited the Pope were late night hosts Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert, The View’s Whoopi Goldberg, Chris Rock, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Conan O’Brien, stand-up comics Jim Gaffigan and Tig Notaro, and others from countries spanning the globe.

 

During the meeting on Friday, June 14, 2024, Pope Francis, spoke about one of the miracles of comedy.

 

The meeting between the Pope and the comedians took place at the Vatican.

 

Addressing the comedians and speaking about the miracles of comedy, Pope Francis said “You manage to make people smile even while dealing with problems and events, large and small.”

 

He says “You denounce abuses of power, you give voice to forgotten situations, you point out inappropriate behavior.”

 

In continuing, he told the comedians that “when you manage to bring intelligent smiles to the lips of even a single spectator, you also make God smile.”
