Suspects Christian Saka Ahianyevi and Newton Allotey 

Police in Ghana have arrested two suspects in connection with the deadly clashes that erupted during the Homowo Festival at Omanjor, a suburb of Accra.

The Accra Regional Police Command, in a statement issued on Monday, September 1, 2025, by its Head of Public Affairs, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, confirmed the arrests.

The suspects were identified as 35-year-old private security officer, Christian Saka Ahianyevi, and 26-year-old dispatch rider, Newton Allotey. Police said Ahianyevi was arrested on August 30, while Allotey was picked up on August 31, 2025.

According to the statement, the suspects are linked to violence at the Omanjor Chief’s palace during the Homowo Festival on Saturday, August 30, 2025. The clashes left three people dead and several others injured.

During the arrests, police retrieved 18 spent BB cartridges from Allotey, while Ahianyevi was found in possession of a locally manufactured pistol, a cutlass, and other exhibits.

“All exhibits have been retrieved,” the statement added.
