The Dangote Group of Nigeria has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Nigerian actress and reality TV star, Phyna. Ruth was recently struck by a Dangote truck in Auchi, Edo State, an accident that led to the amputation of one of her legs.
In separate statements issued by the Dangote Group and Eko Solicitors & Advocates, the law firm representing Ruth’s family, it was confirmed that she passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
According to the company’s statement, management and staff were “deeply saddened by the passing of Ruth Otabor, who was injured in the recent road incident involving one of our trucks in Auchi, Edo State. On behalf of the entire Dangote Group, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time.”
Phyna’s Call for Justice
Before Ruth’s passing, Phyna had publicly demanded justice, recalling how her sister’s accident overshadowed what should have been a moment of joy after her graduation.
In an emotional video, Phyna accused the Dangote Group of neglect, alleging that no company representative visited Ruth immediately after the crash, and that its officials prioritized the truck driver over her sister’s condition.
She also described the severity of Ruth’s suffering, including an invasive surgical procedure doctors performed after the accident.
Dangote Group’s Clarification
In announcing her death, Dangote Group stressed that contrary to allegations, its officials and insurance partners had been supporting Ruth and her family from the outset, covering all medical and financial costs.
The company added that plans had been finalized to fly Ruth to India for advanced treatment once doctors gave clearance. “Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight to live, we lost her today,” the statement concluded.
