Angola President Visits DR Congo To Hold Peace Talks

The President of Angola, Joao Lorenco, has visited the Democratic Republic of the Congo to hold peace talks.

President Lorenco was in DR Congo on Monday, August 12, 2024, in his capacity as the African Union mediator for peace in the East of the DR Congo.

The Angolan leader was welcomed to Kinshasa by Congolese President, Felix Tshisekedi and the two had a 40-minute tete-a-tete after which they both engaged in an extensive working session alongside their colleagues.

Following the meeting, a joint press conference was held and led by Tete Antonio and Therese Kayikwamba Wagner, the Foreign Ministers of Angola and the DRC, respectively.

Both Ministers provided an overview of the discussions held by the two Presidents and the other parties to the peace talks, emphasizing the importance of collaboration for regional peace and stability.
